A DIY Kitchen Remodel is super overwhelming but it’s also totally worth it!! You’ll save a ton of money by doing everything yourself!! You’ll also have so much confidence in your abilities and feel confident to make updates as problems arise.
I used to think that I couldn’t do a job as good as a professional but since then I’ve change my viewpoint. I’m not as good as a professional obviously but the pro’s aren’t always perfect either. They make mistakes too sometimes, it happens. My friends hired a company for their kitchen remodel and were super mad when they started having issues a few month later. Understandably because they spent a ton of money working with that contractor! Luckily if I make mistake, I’m normally just out a little cash and a few hours of work.
One thing I’ve learned is that it’s okay to make mistakes. Everything can be fixed or redone. So for example, I tried to texture our walls and after a full day of hard work I realized I was in over my head. My walls looked like crap! There’s always a solution to a problem though. I had two options to fix my wall texturing: I could sand down my terrible attempt at texturing to make the walls flat or I could hire a company to fix my mistakes. We ended up hiring a company for a few hundred dollars and they fixed all of my mistakes in two hours!
Another lesson I’ve learned is that I can’t be a perfectionist. There are errors in my work and it drives me crazy, but no one else will ever notice those tiny mistakes. My friends aren’t coming over to check how I attached the face frame of my cabinets or inspecting my backsplash with a level. I just have to learn to “let it go” (you know you have to sing that).
If you’re nervous about your DIY Kitchen Remodel, I recommend you start with one project that looks semi-easy and just focus on that project. I hadn’t done half of these projects before our DIY Kitchen Remodel. I would pick a project, read all about it online, and then dive in. Then I’d pick my second project and do the same thing. Baby steps y’all!!
